Way to block texts outside of contact list during late hours?

You can use Do Not Disturb mode and set it so that it is automatically enabled at the same time every day. You can also allow calls from all contacts (or selected ones if you wish) to get through. Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. This is not the same as blocking the messages completely, it just turns off notifications.

Do Not Disturb is a good method, however, the only thing that can get through that is phone calls from excluded persons. That is set in the Do Not Disturb settings. All texts, mail, and any other notifications are completely blocked. There is no exception to that.

On iPhone swipe up to control panel and tap the half moon, this will turn on do not disturb.

You can also set this to be timed during the day by going to settings>Do Not Disturb>Scheduled and select the time range for each day. There are also settings to allow calls from favourites or groups.

Do Not Disturb will block all texts. Although you can set it to allow calls from your contacts, you can't set it to allow texts through.

You can, with some effort, set up a workaround. First, make or buy a "silent" ringtone. I recommend simply springing for the $1.29 to buy one. Then, for all the people you'd like to allow to text you in the night, set a custom text tone (this is the part that may take some work). When you want to silence text except for those you've selected, set the default text tone to "silent" in Settings>Sounds>Text Tone.
